swim lessons

Pyper and Ashton started taking swim lessons this past month and are really loving it!! We thought that it would be great to have them start young since it is so important for them to be able to be safe around water.
I have to admit that working in the PICU has really made me into an advocate for drowning prevention in my home and in the community. I really feel that drowning is such a tragic problem in America and it is 100% preventable. I have seen several families devastated with the effects of drowning and near drowning and want to make sure that we do our part in the prevention continuum.
It is great that a company called Swim Venture offers free swim lessons for children that are less than 3 years old. We got Ashee and Pyper in the same class Saturday afternoons. There are only 3 kids in the class and the girls really get one on one time with the instructor, Amanda. It's great because you can tell that she knows what she's doing. Even if Ashee is crying and having a moment.... Amanda grabs her and says ... "your turn Ashton.. let's go big girl!" It's comforting to know that they are getting more familiar with water and getting their feet wet....
